Agenda

Post by marcoxl5 »

I was just wondering what everyone in the know thinks about my agenda once I arrive. It is to incorporate Alvor, Estombar, Ferragudo, Lagoa, Silves and Porches. I am trying to maximise my first experience of the Algarve and need a little help please.

Burgeau, must see the monchique mointains and little villages dotted about. Inland to as many pretty villages, find deserted beaches which are listed on this site under beaches and some not so deserted. Drive around the lakes, water reserves, must have a trip to Alto. God so much, have a month here and you will still only touch the tiniest tip of it all.
Just wander and do as you feel really, that way you will enjoy yourself the most  Lucky beggar

Portimao. If it is running, take the ferry from Ferragudo, otherwise drive over the old bridge.

I saw light traffic on it at the end of August.

There's not a lot going on in Estombar to my knowledge but Fontes http://www.carvoeiro.com/Guide/fontes/index.html is worth a visit, especially if you have kids because there's a nice little playground.

Porches is no big deal unless you are buying pottery but if you take the road to Armacao da Pera and turn right at the big supermarket, it takes you down to Nossa Senhora da Rocha, which is a quaint little chapel on an outcrop. There are always local guys fishing. Armacao old town is worth a visit and if you go right to the end by the stadium you might catch the fishing boats coming in. There are great walks from here and in February the place is full of serious hikers with sticks and big boots.

It re-opened in the summer, but has closed again now for the winter
