Insurance 4 hire cars

Post by Rob Watson »

The 'insurance 4 hire cars' annual insurance product has been mentioned on this forum before and I'm seriously considering investing in it.

Before I do so I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has had to make a claim. I realise that with any contract of insurance there are terms and conditions which need to be adhered to but are they the sort of insurer who tries their best to avoid - or do they generally pay up fair and square?

I'm just trying to get a feel for whether it's really worth the investment.

many thanks in advance. :D

Luckily we have not had to make a claim as yet, but I am very happy with the £50ish per year payment to cover the costs of any extras etc, I have know someone who had to claim and they found it a very good service, you pay firstly but then claim back from the company, worked for them.

Yup, thats the deal Gerry. Its valid for multiple trips each up to max 30 days.More details here.

Based on reccomendations here (and elsewhere), I've subscribed for 2 years now, but not yet had to claim, so would love to see an answer to the original question.

Friends of ours recommended the Insurance 4 Hire policy to cover the excesses you always have to pay extra to cover. Alas (or luckily) like everyone else, we've never had to claim so can't comment on that side of the service. Given the number of trips we make each year, £50 to cover car hire excesses seems more than reasonable.

I don't get paid for the recomendation, but Economy Car Hire include insurance, and have undercut anything else we have tried. We hire 6 or 7 times a year so do have experience. It is the other alternative.

Hi we have used insurance4hire for two years now thanks to Lesley Jeans
recommendation and as yet haven't had to make a claim, but we must of saved hundreds of pounds so far, and recently my husbands car has been off the road and he has been able to use it against a hire car in the UK, saving even more money. Thanks again Lesley

logicbob, the website is economycarhire.com. They are an agency so give you a choice of operators. We recently switched from Travelrent to Drive4fun, since they are new and keen for business. Their fleet is also new, though still fairly small.

 awww, that's OK. If we can save anything these days then that is a good thing.

We have never had to claim but I do like to think I have the insurance to cover just in case.

From another recommendation I intend to use Economy from Seville airport.

Do any of you have any experience of Seville airport rentals i.e. do Economy have a desk there or do we go through one of their reps at the airport. I can't bear long queues at car hire desks! :(

Just a short note to say thanks for all the replies. It looks like insurance 4 hire cars are making a killing because those who purchase their product never seem to need to make a claim!!

They worked for me.

It looks like the honour of being able to supply the required answer falls to me. We have been insured with insurance 4 car hire for about 3 years. Last winter a large fir tree knocked our chimmney off in a storm. Several bits of concrete damaged the bonnet and front of the hire car. I telephoned the hire car company and told them immediately. On our return to the UK the hire car company billed 150 Euros against our credit card. This was less than I was expecting and very reasonable. I sent everything off to insurance 4 car hire and got a cheque in return with no hastle. I hope this story helps.
