PLaces to Eat in Lagoa and inland
PLaces to Eat in Lagoa and inland
As we will be mid way between CVo and Lagoa we would like to hear about places to eat which are not on the general tourist route and cater for a more local taste rather than offer the " international " menu.
Village Inn/Chicken George
Both great, although sort of touristy, but not too much soo.

Hi tbbr, You could try Tia Rosa in Lagoa.tbbr wrote:As we will be mid way between CVo and Lagoa we would like to hear about places to eat which are not on the general tourist route and cater for a more local taste rather than offer the " international " menu.
Tia Rosa
Cozinha Regional Portuguesa
Urbanização Covas Areia, lt 21
Telefone - 282341072
Peter.
P.S. You can find it at the road on your right hand side just before the PLUS supermarket when you drive from CVO to Lagoa.
A Paleta, beside Plus supermarket in Lagoa. Lunch and dinner.
Fatacil Restaurant for lunchtime all-in dish of the day. Where locals eat.
Restaurante Poço Partido, left at traffic lights after Intermarché, then right for 500m. Dinner.
Colina Village, left at traffic lights after Intermarché, then right for 600m.
Nuno's, left at traffic lights after Intermarché, then left for 250m. Lunch and dinner.
El Paso. Because you have to experience it.

eating in Lagoa and around
where is the El Paso restaurant...sounds interesting!!
Up Restaurant Hill, turn left for Poço Partido. You will see a sign for El Paso at the junction. Follow the road straight ahead, through the crossroad, round a couple of bends then you will see it on the right. Its a tight turn to drive into the car park. I think its about 2k from the turning.
Let us know if you get there

Old thread I know but was searching for "el paso". I meant to post about this one ages ago but forgot all about it. Driving past it today gave me horrible flashbacks.CA & CM wrote:El Paso is owned by the singing German!
This is the worst restaurant I've had the misfortune to step inside in the last several years. Out of hundreds of restaurants over this time, this one really stands out as the absolute worst. Words don't really describe how horrendous it is, but i'll give it a try
I had a load of family over for a week so I rented a villa to put them in, just behind El Paso. Since this was a few minutes walk from it we thought we would give it a try. As we entered we noticed a horrendous smell... like the place hadn't been cleaned in a long time. There were several cats and dogs all lounging around on the chairs that customers would sit on. Animal hairs absolutely everywhere and it stunk of animal piss.
The kids were crying they were starving so against out better judgement we sat down. A dog kept coming up and sniffing at the baby in a buggy, so some old man who was serving dragged it away and closed it in another room.... which was the kitchen where the food is prepared.
We all ordered soft drinks. These were all served, and every single one of them was flat. Not just slightly flat... i'm talking like sitting in a half empty plastic bottle for a couple of weeks or something. This was like 3 or 4 different kind of drinks so not just a mistake of one bottle - they were just deliberately serving stuff that should have been poured down the sink long ago, it definitely wasn't drinkable. The server himself was absolutely stinking and covered in stains... stale sweat and old food stains are not a good look/smell when you're trying to sell food!
My dad complained about the drinks and Mr Stinky picks one up, tastes it, pronounces it fine and sits it back on the table. At that point we just cancelled the food order, paid for the drinks and went down to Carvoeiro properly. I forget the name of the place we went to but its right at the top of the hill on the right hand side (as you go down hill), with the black Brazilian guy always standing outside. Excellent meal in there as usual, complete world apart from El Paso.
El Paso is a health hazard... I've no idea how that place hasn't been closed down. Animals in preparation area, animal piss all over the dining area, a waiter who hasn't washed in at least a week and serving stuff not fit for consumption. The place is completely unhygienic. If you're staying anywhere near this hell hole... take my advice and give it a miss completely.

Because no one has signed the complaints book, compulsory by law, 3 complaints and they would be in serious trouble.Lesley Jean wrote:My daughter and her boyfriend tried this ONCE and like you got as far as the drink order before walking out, the place was horrible, smelly and as you say a health hazard, how can they still be in business ????Octopus wrote:Old thread I know but was searching for "el paso". What tourist is going to want to cause a confrontation by writing my post above in the complaints book, right in front of the person you're complaining about?Jaylay wrote: Because no one has signed the complaints book, compulsory by law, 3 complaints and they would be in serious trouble.
Plus I don't think tourists even understand the implications of it... The sign just looks like you can write a complaint about a waiter and the owner might or might not even look at it. Or the waiter will rip that Page out once you leave

Well if the people feel strongly enough to complain online and wander why this place is still open, they will have to put up with it.
If any restaurant is inspected and not not fit requirements they would be closed, this has happened to various ones over the years, but to be truthful this particular restaurant is not in an obvious location so may not be on the normal inspection route.
In fact it has been there for many years and I have never heard of anyone eating there other than those in this post, and it seems they never ate there either
