Of course they will. Just like a Scottish £100 note - not so common but legal tender and changeable at banks.

Technically speaking Scottish bank notes and for that matter Northern Irish bank notes, are not legal tender.

Yeh but what "does legal" tender really mean? Nothing when you narrow it down to how goods and services are paid for. Further some jumped up Scottish Nobrain Pr!ck (SNP for short) decided against allowing the UK banks to make Scottish notes "legal tender" in case it upset the independence of the Scottish banking sector :? And, since the £1 note has been replaced by the £1 coin English notes are not "legal tender" in Scotland, what the fcuk is that all about :?:

As for anyone offering less than face value for a Scottish or Irish notes which are both acceptable as means of payment, well they can just FRO

Bit of a plonker if you accept the deal, great business for the buyer

Got 1.135euro to the £ today at the Post Office - no comission. Need some for a trip to Barcelona on Moday - went about 6 weeks ago, only got 1.03 then, so a 10% increase. Hopefully it will be back to at least 1.20 (tourist rate) by the time I go to CVO in July.

I'll take out some Euros from a cashpoint in Barca - see what exchange rate I get. I usually get cash from the cashpoints in the village - normally a better rate than taking it out from the UK.

We got nearly 1.15 and it looks like it has moved up a bit more today.

10% makes a big difference to your holiday costs, car hire etc and hopefully will attract more to holiday in Portugal this year.

We have had 3 enquiries in the last 48 hrs , just co incidence ?

I have posted this on the prices also!

The actual tourist exchange rate on Friday was 1.15 with Thomas cook in their shops. That is what you will buy at. I am based in London and the currency exchanges around the city were also 1.15.
I have just come in today and the exchanges are offering 1.16 as the euro has hit 1.18 earlier.
It is best to exchange before you go at the moment and i would go with Thomas cook exchange if you can.

The 1.08 in the town is a big Rip off! The banks will charge around 1.12 - 13 when you withdraw from the ATM.

As of 2pm today Thomas Cook are showing 1.16 with no fee for collection or £5 if you want it posted. There was an article in the london paper saying that they think the Euro will hit 1.20 - 1.18 exchange by the end of the week. So good news at last! 8)

To return to the question you asked ref a 500 euro note, Michael. A woman in front of us in Intermarche this afternoon offered a 500 euro note for an 11 euro purchase, and was given change without any questions being asked. :)

Just how cheap do you think I am.... (careful how you answer that)? I would have gone to Algarve Shopping and spent at least 200 euros before tendering my 500 euro note, thank you very much! :D

Hi

Can anyone tell me what the exchange rate is in Carvoeiro at the moment. I have been advised to bring a small amount of Euros with me and the rest in sterling and exchange when we arrive in the bank. Does anyone know if the banks charge a commission fee or if there are any good places to exchange money. The rate here at the moment I can get is 1.14.

Many thanks
