just back from Faro and also used Travelrent. As I always use them they have all my details so all that has to be completed in the little cabin is car registration number, collection time and return time,I just give them the credit card impress from previous trip ( as long as the credit card is still valid they just take it and staple it to the agreement, I would guess my one has been used about 6 times now) Have to say that 2 customers beat me to the cabin and they both booked through EC and not directly with TR.

This time when we arrived I pressed the key fob and found the car, put in the cases and went looking for their rep (usually a white van but different van this time)mrs soap took a quick look at the car and found a fairly serious dent over one of the rear wheel arches. I came back to the car with their rep and when mrs soap pointed out the dent, she just shrugged and marked the damage on the form (it was not marked) and when I said to her that previous reps just usually wrote down 'scratches' she did the same.

On returning the car there was a different rep in attendance, I pointed out that the aerial was missing and that I didnt notice it when collecting the car but thought it must have been because of the poor reception, he apologised and said I should request the newer model of Clio (apparently the aerial cannot be stolen on the new model) next time. When he inspected the fuel level, I pointed out the damage and said it was marked on the form, he just laughed and said it didn't matter if it was marked or not as it was only a bump and didnt matter. Gave me back the €20 for non use of motorway and cc impress card and off we went. The car this time was a July 12 clio and was a pleasure to drive. I have now stuck the cc impress card back into my passport for dec trip.

When you arive to collect you vehicle are there additonal charges for transponder hire 15-20euros and insurance 6-8 euros day.
When collecting our cars we overhear almost every rep sayng that will be an extra etc etc.
You state in the cabin whether you intend to use the motorway or not, and sign a declaration to that effect. You pay €20 deposit regardless if you say you will/will not use the motorway. Even one toll and you lose the €20. we *shared a rental in August/Sept and used the A22 as we have a few airport trips to make. When you return the car you just state that you didn't use the motorway and the €20 is returned.

*all drivers are covered by travelrent and they put this on the rental agreement.

Getting slightly worried now because if everyone switches to TR .............. :|

The only extra is the Transponder Hire at €20 - but that's a charge the others would add to their prices too. The insurance is included in the €59 - happy days :D

I think the best way for this is if you are going to use the toll road at all, use it all the time - might as well get your money's worth. I had to pay the extra 20euros chunk - my total bill was 39.5 euros - perfection by pure chance :D

Regarding the toll aspect. I rented from Algarve Driver (YOR car) and paid my €20. This gave me €15 to use for tolls. I travelled from airport to accommodation using A22 and had a trip during our stay to Vlla Real, using a good chunk of the A22. My better half logged the charges as we passed each camera during these trips, and our total toll charges amounted to €14.80.
When we returned the car (Saturday a.m.), the rep did the usual check for any new damage (none). She then said they could not check whether I had exceeded my €15 toll allowance until Monday, so my credit card impress was retained in case I had used more than my allowance during the final two days. Needless to say, no extra charge was made to my card after I returned home.
So as far as I was concerned I couldn't save my credit card slip for next time as it was retained by YOR.
As far as finding the car using the key fob is concerned, the YOR reps always take you to the car and check it with you before handing you the key. They also need the key to switch on the ignition to check fuel level, telling you to return the car with that same level.
Any damage is pre-marked on the hire document, with little X markings where damage was found after the previous hire, and the rep goes round the car showing the scratches and dents which the X markings relate to.

Totally agree HR. use it all or don't use it at all. We had 3 airport return trips in August/Sept (6 trips in total) which we had worked out at 6 x 2.95, which is close enough to using the €20 - That was when I noticed they had reduced the toll to €2.55, so TR made a few extra euros with the reduced tolls, which we didn't mind, as they are so easy to deal with.

So it seems that TR are slightly different from YOR in that the whole €20 is available to use for the tolls.
YOR charge €20, but keep €5 each time and the renter can use the remaining €15, and then pay for any toll charges above this €15.
Interesting!

Tom is right - for YOR you buy up 10euros at a time for the additional costs (or at least I did in October) at the end of the period. Different to the FAQs on their site which gives different rules.

Also YOR wanted to charge €20 for collecting after 9pm. I managed to get it wavered. My flight was to land at 9.30pm based on 3 hours from take off. TR never charged us after 9pm. I have hired a group B for my brother no extra insurance €60 the week. Did wonder if that was right. Like JS hope not everyone bps with TR otherwise the price will go up. :D

Picked up a Fiat Panda last night. The third car we've had from YOR (Algarvedriver) that has a broken cigar lighter socket. The battery is knackered on my satvav and I can't charge my phone. They are losing my loyalty.

It would be interesting to know if anyone has reported this to YOR. It's the only way they are going to know about it. Presumably you will tell them. However, whether they fix it or not it is open to question.

To be honest, I don't think Steen and YOR give a damn.

I'm clearly ill informed - but I believed Algarvedriver subcontracted to Yor and others - is that not right?

I suspect Steen just has a commission deal with Yor.
