If the BBC etc is still available on the SKY platform ( not known yet ) any bar that has it should ditch the sports and show Strictly and the other popular sat night progs.![]()

I have 5 terrestrial Portuguest tv channels in addition to the free sat. And I have occasionally tried to watch them. Unsuccessfully.Michael Crane wrote: Maybe so, but it's guaranteed to drive 'em to drink.
These 5 are GUARANTEED to drive anybody to drink
Hook up to filmon on your laptop, and connect to your tv via usb cables? Payg dongle - will it work?
purchase a smart tv and subscribe to Netflix?
or do we just buy lots of boxsets
Re: ASTRA 2E launched successfully....countdown begins
I use xbmc (windows or android) and connect to tv via hdmi.
xbmc.org
Stream via internet, some channels work ok others not at all.

Internet TV however you do it will require a decent internet speed which all of us do not have.
A Smart TV will still need a local internet connection.
Those of us who come and go will find a way but what about those who rent what are they going to do.??

Enjoy the Algarve even more maybe..............EMM wrote: Those of us who come and go will find a way but what about those who rent what are they going to do.??

Hopefully they will, but I was thinking of the owners probably a few thousand who offer UK TV as part of their rental package.
There will be a few unhappy holiday makers next year when they arrive and find its not available anymore.
Good business for those bars offering wi fi, families watching their favourite progs on tablets, Ipads etc.

What is the average installation and monthly cost of broadband in the Algarve, just out of interest?
Re: ASTRA 2E launched successfully....countdown begins
A quality one can cost 20€ a month during 12 months minimum. No installation costs.gavinhenson wrote:What is the average installation and monthly cost of broadband in the Algarve, just out of interest?

As EMM pointed out though, it's all about the speed. Are there any download data limits in Portugal?

I think most broadband in this area is alot slower than that.
I struggle to even watch i-player without it freezing and the circle just going round.
I suspect that a great many of us would struggle to get decent TV via the internet.

Seems a bit on the top side compared to UK but not overly expensive, I would be happy paying that if I was living in CVO AND it was decent service of course.leMene wrote:A quality one can cost 20€ a month during 12 months minimum. No installation costs.
All depends how far from the telephone exchange you are as to how good the speed is. You need to be within 2km of the exchange to get optimum speeds, after that it deteriorates. I was staying at Vivenda Brito on the top of the Eastern Cliff which offered free wifi and I got speeds of 8-10Mb which I thought was very good (for all I know I could have been sat next to the exchange though).leMene wrote:Speed is quite good generally.djprescott wrote:As EMM pointed out though, it's all about the speed. Problems like that aren't limited to Portugal, just moved house and it's taken Sky 10 weeks to connect up my broadband at the new address. They forgot to order the installation altogether at first until I realised something was amiss 4 weeks in.widge wrote:............and if you're with PT you can't even get a phone line never mind broadband internet..............4 days with no service & now only very very slow service.

Yes, ADSL depends on the proximity of the cell, I was forgetting that as I am lucky to live close to one.
There is one cell at Carvoeiro and another at Vale de Milho...
google-earth map for adsl cell in Portugal, https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bx4Q-9h ... sp=sharing
What about cable - Cabovisão - speed does not depend on where you live, as long as the cable get to your house...
And mobile 4G? (I guess you also have to be near a antena...)
