Re: Tolls on the A22
We used the tobacconist in Intermarche last week to pay our toll - no waiting - very easy.

Re: Tolls on the A22
Minor problem with the tobacconist at Intermarche:
I went to pay yesterday for a round trip to the airport on Sunday.
He wanted €11 and change
Turned out that there was an outstanding amount from a previous renter some 10+days ago. He could not fix, but advised I go to the Post Office where they charged the correct €7ish for the 1 round trip.

Probably a cleverer computer ?
Could be that they have additional feature privileges ?
Or it could be that they just much more helpful.
There's no sense in any of this.

Re: Tolls on the A22
I went to the post office in Carvoeiro yesterday to pay my toll. The CTT website showed over 8 euros owing but the girl in the post office asked me how many journeys I had made and the date of the journey. She only charged me 4.05 plus IVA which was less than I expected. I presume they must be aware of the problem about multiple tolls for different renters. I think I will leave a copy of the receipt in the hire car.

Just looked on the CTT web site and it is showing a charge of 2.95 euros so I will try and pay tomorrow and I will you know what happens.

Sounds like the Post Office have got the act together
So hopefully things will be sorted out by the time we get back there on 25th April. It was €3.26 incl IVA each way for us when we were there in February. We don't know yet whether it has been taken from our credit card by Travelrent. Time will tell.
Re: Tolls on the A22
My brother has just spent 2 weeks at Rocha Brava. He used the A22 just for the airport runs and paid in the post office without problem for the arriving journey. He left money with a friend to pay the return. He said the A22 was virtually empty and that when he dropped into one of the motorway services they rolled out a red carpet for him as he was their 1st customer of the day
Can these service stations continue without customers until the summer?

Went to the paper shop in Intermarche paid the 2.95 + .31 cents the whole process took about 2 minuets. Looked on the CTT web sit when we got back and the toll had been cleared. If they can clear the toll straight away when you pay why cant they post the toll straight away when you leave the motorway.

Re: Tolls on the A22
If you consult http://www.estradas.pt/portagensfaq there appears to be an explicit statement about the post-payment options that the PayShop payment option involves paying the entire debt due against a particular registration number whereas at post offices you can pay for a specific day. Neither option covers one hirer driving to the airport and another driving away from the airport on the same day.e-richard wrote:Probably a cleverer computer ?

Re: Tolls on the A22
I've not bothered registering either of my company cars for these tolls... I tried but it was too much hassle.
I can't see anything coming of foreigners (with foreign plated cars) simply not paying. Does anyone think I'm wrong with that line of thought?
I'm not particularly fussed, if I end up with a huge fine at some point further down the line I'll just not pay that also, and move somewhere else

Yes, Octopus. I totally agree with the entirety of your thought process.
I have absolutely no intention of going out of my way to pay tolls if its too difficult.

Can I quote you on that when you post: Do know what those bar-stewards did to me

charliegill11,
we coming down on the 17th March, which intermarche did you use to pay the toll fee and can I pre pay at the same time for the return run to the airport a week later (I'm using a hire car).
Four weeks a go I did the same run but used the N125- just getting over it.
Regards
Bob
