Re: Suggestion Box Praia do Carvoeiro
I know the place is always busy but with all the work that is going on to upgrade and beautify the square I think they could take a leaf out of the book used by the restaurants in the square, they have upgraded their look with new shades and a smarter look outside. Smilers should do the same, it wouldn't cost that much to get some nicer tables and chairs for that corner, I agree with Bruce that it does make that area look a mess, more like a cheap seaside cafe than a nice bar to enjoy people watching, friends and football.....

However, I am sure it has an influence on its customers.EMM wrote:I do not think that the state or otherwise of the furniture outside of Smilers has any influence on visitors to CVO.

What sort of influence do you think it has on customers?

Re: Suggestion Box Praia do Carvoeiro
I was disappointed to see that the seating in the square does not seem to form a part of the new refurbishment plan, public seating is a rarerity in Cvo. Was it's removal suggested by the Square traders? there's a similar situation in Venice where the only seats are coffeee shop or restaurant property, if you want to sit down you buy a coffee. I loved that seat, sit there and watch the world go by
Re: Suggestion Box Praia do Carvoeiro
I agree with you Pato. I liked sitting in the square watching the world go by. I am disappointed that they have removed the circle seating. Lets hope seating will be added when the square is finished, plus lots of flower tubs and maybe a few palm trees.
Re: Suggestion Box Praia do Carvoeiro
I really disliked the circle seating in the square so I'm delighted it's gone. I much preferred the square before they put that ugly thing right bang slap in the middle of it.
Re: Suggestion Box Praia do Carvoeiro
Obviously you're young, I liked it a lot, as you are aware and so did a lot of people judging by it's use, where will the fatties sit now?blue wrote:I really disliked the circle seating in the square so I'm delighted it's gone. Im sure they will provide some sort of seating if not then Pato maybe you can sponsor a bench with a suitable engraving (only scallies can sit here)
. Blue was right about that thing in the middle of the square being an eyesore though even though I did sit on it to clean the sand from my toes .... Lets be positive I think it will uplift the square

Well, although we ate breakfast there once we had passed by many times before and since because of the tables & chairs. Food was only OK .

Hi
Your question asks for ways of improving the image of Carvoeiro centre, as a tourist who has just returned from a week in
Carvoeiro the image we have is not just the roadworks or the plastic tables but of having to deal with the relentless over charging by the shops/restaurants/bars in Carvoeiro centre, everyday we had to send bills back to be re calculated.
The attitude of the retailers/restaurants was that there is less tourists so lets screw what few there are for as much as possible by what ever means possible.
This recession will finish quicker than the memories people will have of ripoff cavoeiro.
I have not sent this message to be malicious but to help improve the image problem you have in what is an outstanding scenic area of the Algarve.

I don't know where you frequented when you were on holiday in Carvoeiro but I think you are being unfair saying that every business is ripping off tourists. Of course you will pay more in the centre - same as you will any popular resort- higher overheads etc. If you want to have lower costs on holiday try eating and drinking in other nearby areas, in Lagoa light lunch for 2 under 5€. Also I was not aware that there was an image problem with Carvoeiro!

Hi e-llen
I was not referring to the obvious higher prices in Carvoeiro centre, you are correct when you say prices are a lot cheaper out of the town, what I am referring to is the the shops which charges for 8 bread rolls when you only purchase 5, this happened twice in 2 days , the meals in the restaurants which costs 8 euro and we were billed 12 euro, the same with drinks, unfortunately this happened daily .
I will agree this does not refer to all businesses, outside of Carvoeiro we never had any problems
You may not have a problem, maybe we were just unlucky?, but talking to other tourists as we did I don't think so.
Re: Suggestion Box Praia do Carvoeiro
I obviously can't comment on your experiences but I live in the area and have a lot of feedback from tourists too and I can honestly say no one has said anything like that to me. I am sorry if that has been your experience of shops and restaurants in Carvoeiro but I had to respond to your post as I don't believe that all businesses are ripping off tourists.
Re: Suggestion Box Praia do Carvoeiro
It would be more helpful, perhaps, if you actually said the names of the places you found were 'ripping you off,' so often, in order to establish whether or not there is a common bond.
