River boat trip
River boat trip
Hi,
Me and Mrs C are over in CVO next week and we'd like to do a river boat trip. I remember seeing boats moored alongside the river in Silves before. Does anyone have any info on river boat trips in the area? Any info greatly received, thanks.

Re: River boat trip
There are various companies that do a small boat river trip from the quayside at Portimao up to Silves but I think they only go once a day when the tide is right. They leave you For a couple of hours plus in Silves and then return. It is a nice trip although the stop off at the memorial in the rocks accompanied by taped music feels a bit tacky but this was some time ago, they may not do it like that anymore! Think the brochures that we've got are out of date but Google comes up with eg algarveboatcruises.com, tel 351 934 702 732.
Best boat trip is the one from cvo beach (or Benagil beach) in and out of the caves along the coast.

Re: River boat trip
Only last month, we took a little boat from Ferragudo up the river to Silves, a trip I can recommend. Very pleasant, peaceful and quite interesting, if you want to avoid the big party boats as described by Alison above. Its a sole owner German guy (pictured on board his boat below) who speaks very good English and will give you a subtle and friendly commentary pointing out the (very few) points of interest along the way. Stop for a long lunch and walkabout in Silves, then head back when it can get a bit chilly on board, so take a fleece or hoody ro similar.
I don't have the name or number, but he leaves from the quay at Ferragudo just opposite the Municipal Market and just before Sueste restaurant, so very easy parking nearby.
There is a board up with name and number. Trip times are totally dependent on the tides and the boat only takes 5-6 people so you need to book.
Hope this helps
