Gold Car

Post by mrsgoonball »

Just wondered if anyone has any experience of Gold Car at Faro airport? I've spent some time looking at car hire for June and decided upon Gold Car as being the most reasonable but then read terrible reviews for them on tripadvisor. Thanks for any information.

Could it be as simple as " you gets what you pays for ". Perhaps those who have complained on trip advisor have also looked for the cheapest but expected a 5 star service. The two do not go together.

The probelm witb "tripadisor " is that there is no verification of postings as has been discussed in the media in recent weeks.

i have just picked a car up from the airport last night(sunday)on hire till next thursday 26th jan the cost of the hire seems cheap but i would advise everybody read the small print very thouroughly.i booked my car with the basic insurance cover&when i arrived they asked me if i wished to pay 60 euros for the full insurance package including cdw, breakdown cover, accidental damage&vandal damge,i declined as the car hire was only 24 euros for the 5 days i was told that if you refuse the full insurance package you have to leave a 750 euro deposit with your credit card.my credit card&my visa card would not work in their machine although there is £7,500 credit left on my visa card i offered to pay the excess deposit by cash but they do not accept cash.i asked what the alternative was&she told me to take out the 60 euro full insurance package,i relucantly took out the insurance then she told me they had the "full tank of fuel policy"which meant another 81 euros i told her i would not use 1/2 of that fuel but she told me thats the policy so i had to pay a total of 141 euors.i agree that i will use a certain amount of fuel but not a full tank.i protested that in december when i hired a car for 1 week i paid a 500 refundable deposit&brought the car back with the same amount of fuel as when i took it from a company based up in car park 4 she told me that they were cheaper than them i told herthey were not&i only paid 28 euros for 1 weeks car hire she told me they were not as big as her company.i protested&told her that no way would i be hiring a car from her company ever again&that if i knew i could get a hire car from somebody else i would have but at 9.30pm at night i didnt want to take the chance

Hi,
I got a car from GoldCar when I was over for a month in December '11/ Jan '12. I got a great price booking through DoYouSpain.com (even cheaper than my usual - EconomyCarHire) and when I arrived I was also asked to take out the 'extra' insurance even though DoYouSpain said there would be no extra charges. I paid as the charge was reasonable considering the hire was for 31 days. The car itself was a Ford Focus Apr 2011 and was in a pretty bad state. It was clean and ran well but even the girl at Goldcar laughed when she marked down all the scratches it had for a nearly new car. They also told us to avoid the A22 tolls and just stick to the N125 as the tolls were only introduced 2 days ago so they were not really sure how it was going to work. At the end of the month I returned the car with an empty tank as requested and because I had paid the extra insurance I was told I could just go and no more paperwork to be done. Things seemed ok but upon checking credit card statements it seems I have been charged for the car hire by both DoYouSpain and Goldcar - which I am currently trying to get to the bottom of.
Notwithstanding the double charge I would say Goldcar were no worse nor any better than the usual car hire companies at Faro.
