Smoke
of course some of us are forgetting that smoking is almost a national hobby in Portugal !! If there was a blanket ban in bars and restaurants you can almost rule out most of the population of Portugal ever going there !! The only country I have been to that was worse was Greece. There it appears tha...

Airport
I'd be very interested to know what the outcome is and whether any international operators are planning to fly there. Faro airport as we all know has developed significantly over the last 15 years. It is still operating well within it's potential capacity and has a decent long runway and plenty of p...

Shopping around
always worth shopping around. If you are happy travelling at off peak times of the day or day of the week, there is so much choice flying to Faro. I cannot think of a major airport in the UK that does not have flights to Faro. If you want a list of Airports and Airlines ... let me know !!! You'd be ...

Alvor Aerodrome
I know that the low cost airlines go into some pretty tiny airports ..... but this suggestion looks pretty mad to me !! The runway at Alvor is only 920 metres long. It would need to be at least 1800m and preferably 2500m to have Boeing 737 or larger aircraft operating in there. I have no idea if the...

Sea temp
Have just come back from a few days at Rocha Brava. When to Praia do Marinha on Sunday afternoon (30th April). Sea was cold but the sun was very strong so we just had to brave it. No regrets, the water was very calm and super clear ...... it just HAS TO BE DONE !! I'm usually a real wimp but my frie...

Hi all, just returned on Monday 1st May from Faro with Thomsonfly to sleepy Bournemouth. We left Faro ahead of schedule and landed at BOH bang on time. it's quite pleasant flying back to a small "provincial" airport. With regard to seat pitch, it really does not matter what type of aircraft the airl...

Flights
Depends where you need to fly from.... try also Monarch Scheduled (www.flymonarch.com) Thomsonfly (www.thomsonfly.com) FlyBe as previously mentioned and of course good old British Airways (but operated by GB Airways ex Gatwick) www.ba.com I think BMI Baby noe do Faro too ex East Midlands. Most of th...

Sign of the times
It's a shame we all get so little to eat / drink on short haul flights..... but we all get what we pay for I guess. I will be stopping at M&S for sandwiches on the way to Bournemouth for my £100 Thomsonfly flight on Thursday. At least some airlines are still a little bit more civilised than the like...

Driver Ed.
Education, education, education ....... Having done a few thousand miles on two wheels and having also had a (thankfully minor) motorcycle accident I can only be SO grateful for the high standards of motorcycle training in the UK. Yes... I know I could still be a total hooligan if I wanted to. But t...

I always used to go to Portugal in July/August when I was a kid and never ever remember a problem with sleeping !!! One week to go ....and I'll be at Rocha...

Weather
try going to http://uk.weather.com/ then type Faro, Portugal.
It gives you a forecast up to 10 days ahead and is a pretty good guide to day and night temperatures.
And thanks God there has actually been some rain over the winter and spring !!! looking forward to seeing how green everything is.

Air Con
I find it mildly amusing that we choose to go on holiday somewhere because it's really hot there ...... only to have to cool ourselves down !! I think it is better for your body to acclimatise to the heat than to go from hot outside to artificially cool in the villa. 8) If it is a two storey villa, ...

And another thing ....
I bow to cowboys extensive knowledge !! I think the recharge zone is the inland strip between the coast and the Serra do Monchique. I just think someone needs to consider when is the development going to cause the total water storage capability for Algarve to consistently be below the demands placed...

Missing the point
I beg to disagree. The reason the coastal strip of the algarve is so green is that IT DOES have plenty of water, albeit in ancient acquifers deep in the rock. The problem is preventing the huge increased demand for water from doing long term environmental damage when that water supply is depleted. E...
